Welcome any readers who have happened upon my blog. You have obviously been surfing the web, exploring random links to adult education. This blog has been initiated as part of the Vancouver Community College School of Instructor Education's "Provincial Instructors Diploma Program" (PIDP). There is a link to the VCC School of Instructor Education in my header, and also a link to their active Facebook page, or you can go straight to the PIDP website for more information on this excellent program, that is offered on behalf of the Ministry of Advanced Education.
Click on Read More to learn about my thoughts on the PIDP program.
From their website program description:
"The BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program provides participants with an excellent opportunity to develop and refine their skills, concepts, and best practices to become an adult educator. The PIDP serves a diverse community of current and future adult educators by providing relevant courses that prepare them for:
- Entry into employment
- Career advancement
- Higher level education
- Participation in the formal and non-formal adult education community
The PIDP provides adult educators with the knowledge and skills needed to design, develop, manage and evaluate the instruction of adults in post-secondary education, business, industry and non-traditional adult learning environments. It also provides instructors with an accredited development program leading to diplomas and degrees at Vancouver Community College and other institutions.
The program places a priority on developing the practical abilities to fulfill the role and responsibilities of adult educators. It also emphasizes the development of personal attributes needed to assume the duties of a professional educator. The program stresses classroom leadership and facilitation, as well as motivational skills and human relations skills." An initial assignment for the course 3100 'Foundations in Adult Education' is to explore the current trends and roles in Adult Education, of which the creation of this blog is a part. However the blog will continue throughout the program, and will be used as an ongoing journal documenting my exploration into the learning 'vortex' of adult education. Even if I am the only one who ever reads it :)
